CT Scanner
Seeing the Whole Picture:
Advanced CT Imaging at VetLand Hospital & Emergency
CT may sound a bit intimidating, but in reality, it is one of the most incredible "medical miracles" we have to help our best friends get back on their paws.
At VetLand, we use our CT scanner to see what traditional X-rays simply cannot. While a standard X-ray is a great tool, it only provides a flat, two-dimensional view. Imagine trying to understand the layout of a whole house by looking at a single photograph of the front door. It has its limitations.
Computed Tomography (CT) allows us to look at your pet in a completely different dimension. It creates a detailed 3D map of their insides, which is vital when we are dealing with complex structures.
Why Does My Pet Need a Pet CT Scan?
We often recommend CT imaging when we need absolute precision. It is the gold standard for:
Complex Joints
Specifically, the elbow & shoulder joints, where we might be looking for subtle arthritis or developmental lesions that are easily hidden on a standard X-ray.
Surgical Planning
If a pet family is facing a complex surgery or a cancer diagnosis, a CT scan is essential. It shows us exactly which structures are involved, allowing our surgeons to map out the safest route even before the first incision is made.
Peering into hidden caverns
Areas like the nose, the middle ear, the spinal canal - these are places that are simply not accessible by traditional examination or imaging methods. CT provides a non-invasive but comprehensive peek at these vital structures.
What to Expect on the Day?
The most important thing for a successful CT is that your pet stays perfectly still. Because we can't exactly ask a Golden Retriever to "hold their breath and don't move," we perform these scans under controlled sedation or anaesthesia.
The good news? The scan itself is incredibly quick. Your pet is in and out of the scanner in a matter of minutes. This means less time under anaesthesia and a faster return to their favourite spot on the couch.
